Act Up

The Purpose: Equip Christian actors who are in drama ministry by sharing professional acting techniques with them at their home church so that they become more confident in using the talents and abilities that God has given to them.
The Process: A fun and informative workshop designed to have maximum audience participation.  This workshop will teach simple acting techniques that will help build the actor's confidence and improve their acting skills.  Each sections called Acts builds upon the lessons learned in the previous section or Act.  We start slowly and build to a polished performance level.  You will be surprised how much confidence you gain in performing in front of a live audience or on screen.
The Program: Below is a breakdown of the four sections or Acts of the workshop, giving an overview of what will be taught and performed.  Scripts will be provided and are appropriate for use in the church.  This is a Christian based workshop and only Biblically sound material will be used.

Act 1:  The Opening Act

Warm ups:  Getting the blood flowing in the body.

House cleaning:  Getting our hearts right with God and clearing the mind of outside stress.

Just Relax:  Learning how to detach from the days events and release stage fright.

Improv games:  This helps you become comfortable performing in front of the group.  Loosens you up to start the next section of improv.

Teaching time:  Recap what we learned during this session and instruction on what follows in Act 2.

Act 2:  Be In the Moment

The Art of Improvisation:   Learn how to interact with other actors, learn how to handle dropped lines, learn how to think quickly on your feet, learn how to be in the moment in the scene, learn how to listen to your scene partner.

Teaching Time: Recap what we have learned so far during this session.  Talk about techniques for how to audition and do a cold read.  The necessity of having a monologue and how to choose the right one to do.  Discuss how to relate to your scene partners.  Get ready for Act 3 - "The Audition Experience" and cold reads.

Encore:  Act Up-The Bible Study for Actors

Act Up-The Bible Study for Actors was written by an actor for actors.  It deals with many of the issues that actors face such as criticism from the outside world, not compromising what you believe and using your talent to serve God.  You can get a copy either by ordering on line or at the seminar.

Act 4:  The Finale

The Performance:  You will perform your scene with your scene partner using everything you have learned from today's workshop.  You will be amazed how much your acting techniques have improved, how much your confidence level has increased and how well you perform your scene.  You will ready for Sunday Morning.

Teaching Time:  In this final teaching session we will recap the highlights of what we learned today.  Also mentioned will be the requirement for professional acting.  If time permits we will take questions from the audience.

Act 3:  Lights, Camera, Action

The Audition Experience/Cold Reads:  Everyone will be given a script and paired with a scene partner(s).  Each person will practice doing a cold read and audition with their scene partner(s).  Beneficial instructions will be given.  If time permits you will get a second opportunity to do your cold read/audition.  This session will boost your confidence in doing cold reads and auditioning.

Teaching Time: Recap what we have learned in this sections.  Talk about how to develop your character and how to relate your scene partner.  How to connect with others in the scene.  You will be given a break so that you can practice your scene with your scene partner.  We will walk around the room offering help to anyone who has a question.  In Act 4 you will "Perform"  your scene and will be critiqued on your performance.
